The Tasmania Tour is based on Southern Tasmania and operates from Hawthorn Lodge in the rural village of Bushy Park, 40 minutes from Hobart.
Tasmania Tour Itinerary
The tour runs for groups on demand and starts on a Monday completing on a Friday. We do not combine groups or bookings. So this is your tour with your own guide and driver so we can be flexible and amend to suit.
We meet you at Hobart Airport or in Hobart in the late afternoon or early evening and then travel the short distance to Hawthorn Lodge. Relax on arrival and enjoy dinner on the veranda overlooking the gardens.
After breakfast featuring homemade breads and jam with fruit from the gardens we head off to see the world’s tallest hardwood trees in the Styx Forest. Driving further along the Styx Valley in this World Heritage Forest we reach Mt Field National Park and the beautiful Russell Falls. Depending on the weather and how you feel we walk up 8km amongst the trees and waterfalls. For those wanting shorter distances that is possible. A picnic lunch and then a drive up to the Alpine Region of Mt Field and view the Lakes and mountain scenery, natural wildlife with options of short walks. A day of natural beauty. Return for dinner at Hawthorn Lodge.
A drive to the Tasman Peninsula home to the highest sea cliffs in Australia view Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen. We then visit the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo that combines up-close animal encounters, wildlife adventures, a Tasmanian native garden and original art. You will have have face-to-face encounters with animals found nowhere else on earth, discover rare and beautiful Tasmanian plants in the Tasmanian Native Botanic Garden. We then drive to Port Arthur and visit the best preserved convict settlement in Australia where history is brought alive. We then drive back to Hawthorn Lodge stopping for dinner. (Dinner and lunch is not included as there are plenty of opportunities to choose what suits)
First to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you get close to wild animals. Onto Richmond with the oldest bridge in Australia and the quaint shops. Then the contrast of MONA the controversial Modern Art Museum highlighted by the New York Times and many others as a “must see” Art Gallery. Set in a stunning location on the Derwent River a museum that is different. We then drive up Mt Wellington and take in the views of Derwent River and over the City of Hobart. The early evening we spend exploring Hobart and experiencing some of the best dining in Australia. Then a pleasant drive along the Derwent River to Hawthorn Lodge. (Dinner and lunch is not included on this day as there are plenty of dining options)
Sadly time for a morning transfer back to Hobart Airport or Hobart if you are extending your time in Tasmania.
