Tasmanian Paddock to Plate Tour
Tasmania produces some of the world’s best fresh produce both from the sea and land. Isolation, strict quarantine, small enthusiastic producers, the world’s freshest air and water all combine to present stunning produce.
On our Tasmania Paddock to Plate tour we travel along the Derwent River starting on the Hobart Waterfront inland as far as the Willows in Ellendale, a tranquil farm in the Central Highlands.
The tour departs from the Hobart Waterfront at 9am, or to meet a Cruise Ship. We then drive up the beautiful Derwent Valley.
We will have a brief stop to see the Heritage Listed Hop houses in Bushy Park and learn about hops that have been grown in Bushy Park for 150 years. Then to Hawthorn Lodge constructed in 1869 by the Shoobridge family who introduced hops to Australia to learn about all the fruits growing in the Derwent Valley and how jams are made. You will have a chance to make a little jam to take home with you.
We then head up the Derwent Valley to the Willows in Ellendale and take a farm tour led by the inspiring owners. On our return we will stop at Hawthorn Lodge and taste the jam you made earlier served on the best scones in Tasmania with Tasmanian Clotted Cream. And sample locally produced cheeses.
Heading home enjoy the views of the Cherry Orchards and the scenic landscapes.
We return to Hobart at 2pm.
