A good week for Hawthorn Lodge having a great write up in the London Times from Mathew Parris one of the UK’s top journalists. Then being upgraded to Superhost by AirBnB recognising our great reviews from guests. And then going up the booking.com scales to be classified as superb. Many thanks to all those who write such wonderful comments in our visitors book and is well appreciated.
The words penned by Matthew Parris in the London Times 7 April 2018.
The word “bungalow” does not do justice to Tasmania’s many sweet abodes, almost all of one storey. After Lake Pedder, Lou and Cody left us at Hawthorn Lodge, a bungalow built in 1869, a delightful guesthouse where Marie and David Hearle plied us with cream teas and samples of finest homemade tomato soup. Over sparkling wine on a veranda whose ironwork was garlanded with flowering creepers, I reflected that if the image of Australia that we Europeans have is missing anything, it’s what Tassie can offer: a certain softness, a grace and charm.
Our Overland Track transfers have been very busy this year. We pick you up at Hobart Airport or Hobart, stay with us at Hawthorn Lodge for the night and in the morning take you to Cradle Mountain ready to start at 10.30. At the end we meet you at Lake St Clair, have a night with us and the next morning to Hobart. This is a great multi day hike and everyone has very enjoyed the experience.
Hawthorn Lodge is on the Tasmania Trail and very pleased this year to have many stay with us who are doing the Tasmania Trail. You can ride, cycle or walk.
Kayaking on River Derwent
Kayaking on the Derwent River is a most pleasant experience. Kayak tours start from Hawthorn Lodge with a rapid tour starting at 10am and a Platypus Tour in the evening starting at 5pm. If you are staying with us the Kayak tours can be pre-booked.
