Lazy Teas was founded on Marie’s love of the traditional cream tea. Over the past 10 years Marie’s running travels have taken her to the UK many times and her great passion is to roam the countryside (or London) looking for tea rooms. Not just any afternoon tea venue though- she loves the work.
Fresh tea leaves, brewed in lovely tea pots – poured into fine china tea cups, on fine china saucers as well of course. Then comes the freshly baked scones- served with local jams and her very, very favourite- topped with Devonshire clotted cream. Heaven. The scones are gaining acclaim in Tasmania and regarded as the “best in Tassie”. They did win at the Bushy Park Agricultural Show, the oldest agricultural show in Australia.
Marie’s dream was to start her own traditional tea rooms in Australia and when she stumbled across the beautiful Hawthorn Lodge- she knew it was time to start Lazy Teas!
The Lazy Tea is for lovers of relaxing in lovely surrounds, taking time out of their crazy schedules and indulging in some hearty luxury.
The scones are home baked and fresh daily. The jams are locally grown (with most of the fruit coming from the Hawthorn Lodge garden where the focus is organic production. The clotted cream is sourced from a local Tassie dairy and is the real deal.
We serve local teas of four varieties (Black; English Breakfast; French Earl Grey; Green) in fine china teapots/cups and saucers. And we provide plunger coffee for the non-tea drinkers as well.
On sunny days we invite you to enjoy your tea on our beautiful front veranda and take in our lovely gardens. In cooler weather tea is served in back gallery near the cosy fire.
