Hawthorn Lodge Gardens

The garden at Hawthorn Lodge is a significant attraction. Covering a few acres this well established garden has some of the finest trees in Tasmania. This includes the oldest Magnolia in Australia and magnificent Oaks and tall Sequoias. The gardens were established by William Shoobridge in 1869 with the original design based on a Kent Garden.

Residents and guests taking tea, lunch or dinner are most welcome to view the gardens.

Plant sales

David trained originally in horticulture and using his skills selects the best plants and trees for others to enjoy. We sell these on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays or by appointment.

We offer excellent value and some of the cheapest plants in Tasmania. If you buy in bulk we will happily discount.

As well as supplying in pots we are able to dig up original plants and provide cuttings. A very good way to go to minimise plant stress.

If you want to discuss call David direct on 0438 730204 or email david.hearle@gmail.com

Produce

We do produce herbs, vegetables and fruit in the extended garden. Most we use for our restaurant but where we have an excess we do sell at the farm gate.

  • Explore the garden at your own pace
  • Cream tea with fresh scones, clotted cream and homemade raspberry jam
  • Each person may select two cuttings of any plant
  • Opportunity to buy any plants at discounted rates
